The repair sequence matters.

This X1 was not simply “painted over”. The repair followed the damage: sand and feather → clean/degrease → plastic primer / adhesion promoter → primer → refine → colour and blend → clear coat → cure, inspect and finish. That process is what separates a cosmetic cover-up from a properly prepared local repair.

Polish, repair or respray?

1 · Polish / correct

Best for suitable surface transfer, haze and shallow marks that remain within sound paint. Paint correction is the least invasive starting point when it can achieve the result safely.

2 · Local cosmetic repair

For selected deeper scratches, chips and scuffs where paint is missing but a full-panel refinish is not automatically necessary.

3 · Panel respray

For broader damage, failed clear, extensive chips or repairs needing wider colour work. We explain when a panel respray will give the more uniform result.

Start with the least invasive suitable repair.

Surface transfer and shallow marks may polish out. Deeper scratches, missing paint or damage through the clear coat can need preparation and refinishing. We assess the depth and affected area before recommending the work.

Selected stone-chip repairs.

Small chips can sometimes be improved with colour-matched local repairs while keeping the surrounding paint. On our orange Volkswagen Transporter / Frontline camper project, selected chip repairs were combined with careful paint correction.

Stone-chip repair or respray?

It depends on the number, depth and spread of the chips and the result you want. Selected repairs can improve presentation without refinishing the whole panel, but they are not guaranteed to become invisible. Extensive damage or a more uniform finish may call for a panel respray. Send photos and we can organise a time to have a look.

Bumpers need their own assessment.

Selected scuffs and cosmetic bumper damage can be repaired and refinished. Cracks, distortion and previous repairs may change the scope. We’ll explain those limits and confirm the price before booking.

Three photos help us help you.

Suitable scratch and bumper repairs can be completed at your home or workplace across Geelong and the Bellarine. Send wide shots and close-ups of the damage, your suburb and a photo of the work area. We’ll assess the repair and confirm whether the mobile setup suits the job.

When a larger area needs work.

Damage spread across a panel or requiring wider colour blending may be better suited to a panel respray.

Stone-chip repair or respray?

Some small chips and isolated marks can be improved with carefully colour-matched local repairs. Wider damage, missing paint or areas needing colour blending may call for refinishing instead. Matt and Zac assess the condition before recommending an approach, so you know what result to expect.

For an assessment of your own car, send a full-panel photo and close-ups of the marks to autofinish@colourworld.com.au, along with your suburb.

Can that scratch be polished out?

Matt explains this question in our scratch assessment video: polishing may help with shallow marks, while deeper damage can need paint. The right answer starts with assessing your panel.

How do you decide between polishing and paint repair?

We look at the depth of the damage and the condition of the surrounding finish. Surface transfer and shallow marks may respond to paint correction. Missing paint or deeper damage can require repair and refinishing. We’ll explain what can be improved safely before agreeing the work.

What photos should I send?

Send a clear photo of the whole panel and a close-up of the scratch, plus your vehicle details and suburb. For a mobile visit, include a photo of the work area. If photos do not show enough detail, we can organise a time to have a look.

Will every scratch disappear?

Not every mark can be polished away safely. We’ll explain the likely improvement and whether a local repair or panel respray would be more suitable.
