BMW X1 – Mobile Front Bumper Scratch Repair
BMW X1 PROJECT · BELLARINE
CLEAN • CORRECT • PROTECT
This dark metallic grey BMW X1 had heavier scuffs and scratches through the front bumper corner. The damage needed more than polishing, but it did not automatically justify repainting the entire bumper.
The repair: damage assessment · sanding and feathering · clean and degrease · plastic primer / adhesion promoter · primer · refine the repair · colour and blend · clear coat · cure, inspection and final finishing.
Before: scratches through the bumper corner.

What the repair actually involved.
- Assess and feather the damage. The scratches were sanded back and the damaged edges feathered into sound surrounding paint.
- Clean and degrease. The repair area was cleaned before any coating stages so contamination was not trapped underneath the finish.
- Plastic primer / adhesion promoter. The exposed bumper substrate was treated first so the following coating system had the right foundation.
- Primer. Primer was then applied to the prepared repair area and refined before colour.
- Colour and blend. Colour-matched paint was applied locally and blended into the surrounding finish.
- Clear coat and finishing. Clear coat rebuilt the protective finish. Fresh refinishing is checked after cure and the final finishing stage is completed before handover.
After the localised repair.

Why local repair instead of a full bumper respray?
The repair method follows the damage. Surface transfer and shallow marks may only need correction; selected deeper scratches can suit a localised repair; wider damage or a more uniform refinishing requirement may be better suited to a panel or bumper respray.
