Volkswagen Transporter – Stone Chip Repair & Two-Stage Paint Correction
VW TRANSPORTER PROJECT · GEELONG & BELLARINE
CLEAN • CORRECT • PROTECT
This orange Volkswagen Transporter came to us with stone chips, heavier passenger-side scratching, bonded contamination and paintwork that had lost clarity. The right answer was not automatically a respray: we repaired what made sense locally, then corrected the existing paint across the vehicle.
The work: wash and decontamination · clay-bar preparation · colour-matched stone-chip repairs · scratch reduction · mostly two-stage paint correction · finishing polish with protection.
Before: chips, scratching and tired paint.

Why we did not simply repaint it.
Much of the existing paint was still worth preserving. Selected stone chips were colour matched and repaired, and the heavier passenger-side scratching was reduced before the broader correction work. The aim was to make a major visual improvement without unnecessarily repainting sound panels.
Mostly two-stage correction.
Most of the Transporter needed a two-stage correction. The first stage provided the heavier cut needed to reduce deeper defects, followed by a finishing polish to refine the paint and bring back clarity and gloss. The finishing polish also left protection behind, so there was no separate ceramic-coating step on this job.
That distinction matters: good correction is not about blindly chasing every last mark. Every sanding, compounding and polishing step removes a small amount of material, so the goal is the best safe result while preserving as much healthy paint as possible.
After: same paint, completely different presentation.

Repair, correct or refinish?
The right process depends on the defect. Shallow marks may respond to paint correction. Missing paint and stone chips can sometimes be improved with local cosmetic repair. Deeper damage or a larger failed area may be better suited to a panel respray.
For this Transporter, combining local repairs with paint correction gave the improvement we were chasing while retaining the existing finish wherever practical.
Have similar paintwork?
Send us a photo of the whole vehicle, close-ups of the marks and your suburb. Matt or Zac can explain what is likely to correct, what may need a local repair and when refinishing is the better option.
